Alangad Sree Santana Gopala Murthy Temple
Alangad is a growing village around 9kms away from the hustle and bustle of Aluva town. At the heart of the village, lies the Santhana Gopala Moorthy temple dedicated to Lord Krishna. The temple has a vibrant culture with enthusiastic people in charge of maintaining the temple. However the murals there are in a state of despair.
Drawn in the style of Raja Ravi Varma, the artist Neelakantan Elayath has even made replicas of Varma's famous lithographs like the panels depicting Gajendramoksham, Yashoda and Krishna and many others. Paint has flaked off on portions and one particular mural of a Kathakali dancer has his face vandalized. Yet the images have stood the test of time, shining brilliantly despite multiple scars of the past.
