Explore Murals by Location
A mural cannot be separated from the place it was made for. The site determined everything — which deity's stories were painted on which wall, how high the figures were placed, what light they were seen in, who was permitted to stand before them and when. This browse pathway organises the archive by geographic location — by district, by site, by the specific walls on which these paintings survive. Each location entry includes the site's history, its architectural context, the mural programs documented there, and the permissions and conditions under which documentation was carried out.
